Squatters Run 4 was a terrible place to stay. The room was badly furnished, very dated and overpriced, and there wasn’t any hot water. The owner refused to give a refund and said, “these things can happen...” I’d tell people to choose somewhere else in Thredbo.
Apartment 6 gave my family a fantastic first holiday in Thredbo. I stayed there for four nights in July 2022 with my wife and four kids, and it was beyond what I expected. The location worked especially well for a first visit: you can walk to most main places in 2-3 minutes, or 10 minutes at most, and being in the village square is handy if you’re nervous about driving in snow. The apartment was modern and luxurious, with great views, very clean rooms, heated bathroom floors and heaters throughout. It felt like a six-star hotel to me, even though it’s rated four stars. We loved it :)
The living space at unit 7 in Squatters Run made the weekend for me and three mates. We had a fireplace, a huge window looking out at the snowy mountains, board games and everything we needed in the kitchen. It snowed heavily in the last week of June 2016, so we got a good run on our boards. With good company, that was all we needed. I’d stay again.
The apartment was great, with good facilities and a good location. Parking was the snag. There is a space included, but the road gradient and access angle made the allocated spot unusable for our low-profile car. We ended up scratching the underside on the bollard.
I booked Squatters Run Apartments for 6-8 August 2021 and had paid in full 60 days beforehand. I live in Sydney, where lockdown began on 26 June and lasted for the rest of the ski season, so I couldn’t travel. After cancelling through booking.com, I contacted Squatters Run to ask about a refund or credit because of the COVID restrictions. The woman who answered was extremely rude and dismissed any discussion. When I asked for the manager, I was told they weren’t available. I asked again whether they’d consider a credit or refund, and she said, “ok… thought about… no, no refund.” That was disgusting behaviour. It felt like they were taking advantage of the pandemic and keeping money from innocent guests. I wish I’d read the other reviews first, since it seems countless people have lost their hard-earned money there.
