A Raceview Motor Inn

Sabrina made us feel very welcome and was helpful, informative and accommodating. I can’t fault her as manager. The hotel itself could use some updating, though, especially the furniture and linen. It’s a bit dated and needs some TLC.

The receptionist was lovely, and so were the little gardens. We needed budget accommodation for one night, and the room didn’t really impress us. There was a bad urine smell, the floors were sticky and the benchtop wasn’t clean. The bed was somewhat comfortable, but our bathroom was next to the smokers’ area and filled with that smell. It also took us a long time to get an Uber because the races were on across the road.

The room was lovely and warm when we arrived, even though we were freezing after getting out of the car. They’d left the air conditioning running on warm and had also put in an oil heater. I’d called earlier to say we’d be checking in late, and the staff arranged a key so we could still get in. The room was clean, with plenty of tea and coffee. Definitely recommend it, 10 out of 10.

After a long trip, I arrived to check in and was told my confirmed booking had been cancelled. There’d been no email, text or call. They said they’d tried calling me the night before, but there’s no record of it. It seemed they had overbooked and sold a room that wasn’t available. The woman at the desk was rude and dismissive, and didn’t seem to care. She actually said, “Better luck next time,” while I was standing there with my bags and nowhere to stay. There was no apology, help finding a solution or empathy, just attitude. If this is how they treat guests, I’d hate to see how they deal with bigger problems. Save yourself the drama and book somewhere else. “Better luck next time” shouldn’t be a customer service policy.
