Altona Motel

Ali, the owner, made a real effort to make sure we were comfortable. He arranged after-hours check-in for our family of five, apologized that his larger room was already occupied, and checked in with us the next morning to see if all was well. We chose the place after reading the Google reviews and were happy with that decision. We just wish we'd had time to look around Uralla, since the cafes and pubs seemed worth a stop.

Ali deserves much of the credit for making Altona Motel such a good place to stay. He was welcoming and helped me quickly, with a smile, when I needed to resolve an important admin issue back home in the UK, 11 time zones away. My phone wasn't working, so his help meant a lot. The motel is easy to find and check-in was simple. Our room was spotless, the cleanest we've come across on our road trip through NT, SA, VIC and NSW. It was big enough and had the equipment and supplies we needed, plus a hot, high-pressure shower. Uralla is a good base for this beautiful part of NSW, and Altona Motel is the place to stay there.

I finally got my first full eight hours of sleep in two and a half weeks here. I'm fussy about beds, and this one was firm, but clearly comfortable enough for me. The motel is beside the highway, yet quiet. The shower takes a little waiting, though it's worth it. Hot water can take several minutes to reach some rooms, and Ali is working on fixing that. The place is a gem: warm, clean, comfortable and newly renovated. Ali is an amiable, very likeable host who goes out of his way. We booked one night and stayed for two. When we booked the extra night, we got fresh towels. I asked for fresh mugs and glasses, which was no problem, and although we said the bed didn't need making, they made it anyway. We asked to see the rooms when we arrived, and Ali showed us a small double, a small queen and the Supreme Queen, which we chose. The rooms have different price points, though the difference wasn't significant. Please don't complain about the rooms being small. I'm sure Ali will accommodate you if he has a larger room. Uralla is lovely, and this little highway motel makes a good break in a journey. Please excuse the photo quality, we're still staying here.

Just passing through, I booked online for one night and found a great little place at a very cheap rate. The rooms were really clean, the bathrooms brand new, and I slept well. See you next time.
