Mercure Warragul

Whenever I'm in Warragul for work, I stay at the Mercure. The staff at reception are friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean, and the wifi is very good. Free car parking is underneath the Mercure Hotel in Mason Street, and the train station is only about 200m away. Coles is down the road for late night snacks. There are good food options close by: the New Mason Restaurant serves a very hearty meal, so you won't go hungry. Pelligrino's Pizza Restaurant is across the road, and has great boutique beers on tap. It feels more like a pub than a restaurant. Streatside Cafe, also across the road, is handy for a lovely early morning breakfast. If you're a bit of a gym rat, Snap Fitness Gym is two doors down. It's open 24/7 and very well appointed. I recommend the Mercure.

The area is close to lots of shops, places to eat and the train station. Staff were lovely and helpful, and the hotel had clear, easy procedures for picking up your keys after reception closes and dropping them off before it opens.

There was plenty of space in the big room, and it appeared clean. The decor was very basic, but it had what I needed. The bar fridge had only non alcoholic drinks, and as far as I could tell there weren't any decent views around the place. Free parking and good access points around the building. The worst part for me was loud music from the brewery across the street, which interrupted my sleep until after 1am. The pillows were awful too, flat and lumpy. Because of the noise, I wouldn't stay here again.

I couldn't stay there. The artificial fragrance was so strong at check in that it made me nauseous, and it continued in the room. They'd also just finished painting the foyers on each level, and the paint smell was overwhelming. I tried two rooms on separate floors, but both were just as bad. Even without the paint smell, the rooms felt tired and underwhelming. I'd avoid this place.
