Bridge Motel Wellington

The river setting is lovely, and the managers were welcoming, but the room itself was dirty and smelled of smoke. There was soap scum in the shower, dead flies along the window ledges, thick dirt in the kitchen corners, and ugly stains on the carpets. I had to clean bugs and leaves out of the pool on both days we used it, despite it being filtered. For what we paid, I expected at least a proper clean. The rooms need updating, though even a few small improvements would help.

I arrived late after calling ahead and being told how to collect the key after hours. When I got there, the motel door was ajar, and I couldn't get my room door to shut, so I had to sleep with it open. I was told the owner, Peter, would call me, but he didn't. When I finally reached him, his response was basically that it was too bad. I would have felt safer sleeping in my car. The conditions were shoddy, the pool looked hazardous, and I strongly advise against staying here.

There’s a separate locked bicycle storeroom beside reception and the managers' residence, with video monitoring, which was a real plus for us as cyclists. We also found the rooms a good size and equipped as expected, with a comfortable bed. Even though the motel is on the highway, it was quiet, and the outdoor garden and pool made a pleasant place to spend time. The new manager, Peter, and the maintenance man were very welcoming and treated us with great courtesy.

Peter and the girls were fantastic and went out of their way to help me. The room was what I expected from a good-value country motel. I’d recommend it highly.
