Yeppoon Beachhouse - Hostel

It feels more like a guest house, with a quaint, clean feel, comfy beds, and a mix of indoor and outdoor common areas. The kitchen is small but does the job, and the showers and bathroom area were very clean. The aircon is on at night and switched off during the day to save energy. That’s good for energy use, but in summer it gets very hot inside when you’re trying to rest.

We arrived late to check in, and it seemed someone had taken our keys. We managed to contact them at night and get inside. The house was beautiful and clean, the beds were comfortable, and the service was excellent.

We’re in our 50s and felt right at home at The Beach House. The guests made us feel so welcome, and one of them cooked for everyone, which felt just like a big family get-together. Jackie is a beautiful lady who looks after everyone like family. Such a great place, highly recommended.

The layout is nice, and there are big lockers with keys that can fit a suitcase. But the aircon situation made the stay unbearable. I booked a four-bed dorm with aircon and was put in a five-bed room where aircon wasn’t allowed from about 8:00am to 4:30pm. At 35 degrees, feeling like 39, the rooms were unbearably hot during the day. None of the common areas had aircon either, and the fans just pushed hot air around. I specifically chose a place with aircon; otherwise I wouldn’t have booked. Other travellers I spoke with were struggling too, but had few nearby options. I left after one night because of the heat. Security also felt questionable: someone could walk in from the street, as there was no key, code or swipe entry. There were children staying at the backpackers, and extra families came over from the caravan park across the road, with kids running around in the evening. That changes the hostel atmosphere I’m used to. Some people may be fine with it, but I’m not a fan. Food options nearby are limited, though the grocers and other food are a short drive away.
