Pansion River

The room was cosy, clean and comfortable, with everything we could need. The hotel itself is charming and beautiful, with lovely river views and a bar terrace that has no rival. We arrived on a snowy November day, but the warm welcome soon chased away the cold. If I could, I'd give this place 100 stars, though I'm limited to 5. Surely the only place to stay in Sarajevo!

The historic part of the city is only a few minutes away on foot, and the staff were very friendly. We felt at home and didn't miss anything during our stay. We enjoyed our time at this pension a lot. If you want a place where you'll feel at home, I highly recommend it. Thanks for making our stay so great!

We went in December, and I still enjoyed sitting on the patio balcony for fresh air whenever I wanted. There are heaters to keep you warm and your clothes dry in the Balkan cold, plus ashtrays for smokers. The food and open-air atmosphere made it worth coming: the views were beautiful, breakfast was included, and the meals were delicious. I recommend the vegetable pizza. Its crust was so good, maybe sourdough or coffee cake, I'm not sure. You should try their coffee cake too. Right of the hotel and restaurant, there's a huge park, a riverside walking path, a free sauna and an outdoor gym. Take the trail or sidewalk closest to the hotel downhill, not the highway with no sidewalk. Baščaršija, the historic old town, is about a five-minute walk to the left of the hotel. Don't go up the mountain. There are cute little shops, coffee and food there. Very Bohemian, very Bosnian. 10/10 experience. Check out the Yellow Fortress wounded soldiers. It's a very historic spot where WW1 sparked. On June 28, 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary was assassinated in Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip. That set off a chain reaction of alliances and declarations of war. Sarajevo was the spark, not a battlefield. The war didn't destroy the city; it started there and spread outward. Within weeks, Europe, and then the world, was at war.

The restaurant downstairs was a highlight. The food was fresh, flavorful and beautifully presented, and I enjoyed every meal, whether breakfast, lunch or dinner. With river views and a relaxed atmosphere, it was one of my best dining experiences in Sarajevo. My room was cosy, spotless and nicely decorated, and the staff were attentive and genuinely welcoming. The service felt personal, and they went out of their way to help. Pansion River is right by the river with lovely views, and it's a short walk to the heart of the Old Town. It exceeded my expectations. For charm, comfort, good food and warm hospitality, I'd happily stay again and recommend it to anyone visiting Sarajevo.
