Motel M

I hadn’t planned to stay in Vlasenica, but an unexpected overnight stop brought me to Motel M. The staff welcomed me gladly and treated me like family. Both the room and the food were excellent. I’d gladly recommend staying here.

Easy to get to, clean, and the food and service were great. It feels like more than a 3-star motel.

We couldn’t sleep because music from parties in the hotel’s rented dining room and bar played very loudly all night. The garden where breakfast is served was a nice place to sit, though. The rooms need updating, and the website photos don’t show their actual condition. Our bed sheets were stained, the bathroom wasn’t very clean, and the shower leaked.

The portions were really generous, the food tasted good, and the place had the feel of a typical small-town motel restaurant. Service was quick and responsive, with everything we ordered arriving in under 20 minutes. On the downside, we experienced another instance of micro-racism from the male server, as we’d expected in rural Europe. I don’t speak any South Slavic language, but I know enough banter to understand they were talking about us as “Chinese.” We’re Indonesian, not Chinese, a completely different country and not that close to China. We don’t even share the same language or culture, apart from some minorities. You’d probably feel a bit offended if we called you Albanians or Bulgarians, right? Anyway, point made.
