It was so quiet and relaxing here, with plenty of room to walk around. I did laps around the hotel after meals, while my partner liked having the space even though dinner didn’t quite fill them up. I’m 25, but I could see myself living here after retirement if I could afford it. It’s far from everything else, which suited me fine. The pool wasn’t crowded, and it never felt noisy. The room felt like a little apartment, which I loved. It was surprisingly clean, clean enough that we were happy walking around barefoot. Housekeeping mopped and cleaned every day, and the team was friendly and did a great job. I just wish there’d been dish soap so I could wash dishes myself, and that the TV was in the bedroom instead of the living room. The shower was a hassle. You have to turn the knob all the way around to get hotel water, and the farther you turn it, the harder the water comes out. The floor filled up quickly, so with hot water we had to stop every 20 seconds and wait for it to drain. Service was great, no problems there. Staff answered my questions and were accommodating.

We’re in our 30s and found it a little too quiet for us. Even walking between our room and reception, it felt oddly empty, though there were people around. Most of the activities seemed aimed at retired guests, so it may suit people who prefer a quieter pace. The pool was kind of small, and it felt awkward to laugh out loud or just have fun there.

We stayed for a few days before a Caribbean cruise. The room was a good size and looked out over the sea. Dinner was a bit disappointing, though, since the pool and garden buffets seemed to run out of food. The hotel is in the north of the island. It worked fine for a short stay.

Our group of eight stayed for 14 nights in four garden bungalows in September 25, all inclusive. We had a really lovely time. The welcome drinks and cold towels were a thoughtful touch after the long journey. The staff were friendly, attentive and always ready to help. Rohan at the bar and Tameshka, who worked as a waitress and bartender, were especially warm and went above and beyond. There was plenty included to do, so it’s worth asking reception about activities. We enjoyed having the option of a glass-bottom boat tour, a guided gully walk, cocktail and cooking demonstrations, and a free shuttle to Speightstown or the beach. We skipped salsa dancing. The themed evenings had live music, and some performers took requests and got people dancing and singing along. Visiting off-season also meant a peaceful atmosphere and lots of space. The food was excellent, with à la carte dining three nights a week and themed meals on the others, including Caribbean Night, BBQ, Fish Fry and International Buffet. Breakfast began as table service, then changed to a buffet after two days. Service was a little shaky at first, but the team was trying to get it right, and once it settled we preferred it to the menu breakfasts. Depending on the theme, dinner was held either at the Chattel Bar farther down the complex or beside the pool. Most drinks were included all day, with imported brands like Guinness or champagne costing extra. Our rooms were comfortable and clean, the air conditioning worked well, and maintenance issues were handled promptly. Laundry cost 8 BBD per token. A few things could have gone better. One room wasn’t ready when we arrived, so after a long flight we had to wait in the heat. We were offered drinks, but nobody suggested the air-conditioned Green Monkey Lounge by the pool, which we didn’t know about at the time. The hotel is farther from the beach than many others, so a car is a good idea for exploring. There are included outings, though. The à la carte menu and desserts stayed the same throughout the stay, so meals could feel repetitive unless you changed your choices. The dessert options at the Chattel Bar were more limited without ice cream, which staff said was too far from the kitchen. Lunch portions were generous, and most days we were too full for dessert anyway. The two poolside evenings had more variety, and after a few days the team added some gluten-free choices. We weren’t asked about intolerances or allergies on arrival. When the gluten-free guest in our group learned the chicken was breaded, though that wasn’t on the menu, staff asked them to fill out a form. That should have been handled from the start. On Fish Fry nights, music at the Chattel Bar was too loud for the small space and made it hard to talk. The Wi-Fi connection was patchy, especially mornings and evenings, and the password changed midway through our stay without a note in the rooms. We only learned the new one from other guests.
