The staff were lovely, and I feel for them because the owners should be sorting out many of these problems. The grounds are attractive and the location is lovely, especially right beside the beach, but I wouldn’t stay here again. We arrived on Christmas Eve and were given a key, then carried our bags up three flights because there’s no elevator. The room was already occupied. Staff seemed unsure what was happening, so we were moved to a ground floor room, with no help bringing our luggage back down. That room’s air conditioning didn’t work. Reception said they already knew and had called a technician to install a new unit if it couldn’t be repaired. While we waited, we unpacked and bought groceries to stock the fridge for Christmas. We spent two hours outside the room while the air conditioning was fixed. When I went to shower, water was all over the bathroom floor and leaking through the ceiling. Reception did upgrade us, to be fair, but we had to repack everything, including the food in the fridge, and move to the new room ourselves. Quite a Christmas Eve. We received a complimentary meal for the problems. The waiters brought a starter I hadn’t ordered, and nobody asked how we wanted our rib eye steaks cooked. The steaks were overdone, the potatoes very hard and undercooked, and so were the vegetables. In the new room, the air conditioning unit was mounted on the wall above our heads. I woke with a severe headache and neck pain. The pillows were so high and thick that I slept on two rolled beach towels instead to avoid more neck pain. Water ran across the bathroom floor whenever we showered. We asked for extra floor towels but always got one tiny towel. The water was often cold or lukewarm, with no temperature control. The oven was very old and not fit for purpose. Only three of the stovetop rings worked, and the oven temperature control didn’t work. Getting a beach sunbed means setting an alarm for 6:30 each morning. I’ve never seen guests reserve beds like this. One family alone took most of the pool beds early each morning. On the second to last day, we set an alarm for 7, but there were no beds left. Who wants to set alarms on holiday? The hotel should stop people leaving their things on beds all day when they aren’t using them.

I was traveling by myself and felt very safe here. The staff were super friendly and helped carry my luggage to my room. I was on the top floor, with an incredible view. The airport was only a 20 minute taxi ride away.

I stayed in April 2025 and liked the location, with shops within walking distance and a room looking over the pool and beach. The room had a cooker, kettle, fridge, microwave, and toaster. There was no complimentary tea or coffee, unlike other hotels I’ve stayed at in Barbados, so you need to bring or buy your own. There was no welcome drink at reception or in the room either. The Wi-Fi was poor, and I had to log in again several times a day. The decor needs updating, with old furniture and cracks in the floor tiles and bathroom sink. I was on the third floor, but the lift wasn’t working. I was told it had been out of order for over a month. There were no room service menus in the room. I ordered an omelette, which was small and basic compared with ones at other Barbados hotels. The evening meal was good. The security deposit is 350 BDS.

The Wi-Fi was terrible, and they didn’t even leave a note with the welcome or Wi-Fi information. The kitchenette was poorly done, with shabby appliances, and the whole building feels like it’s deteriorating. The bed was badly set up, with very flat pillows and a so-called king made by pushing two twin beds together. The toilet was extremely noisy after flushing. The elevator wasn’t working, so we dragged our suitcases up four flights of stairs. They offered us a ground floor room instead, tucked into a corner with little view, but called it an “upgrade” from the higher floor. The front desk person was rude and unwelcoming. She handed over keys and pointed us toward the rooms instead of showing us around, which was unfamiliar and not accessibility friendly. When we said we were unhappy, she argued with us. I believe her name was Amanda. There was no apology. The worst hotel we’ve ever stayed in. Zero out of five stars, not worth the listed price, and we wouldn’t recommend booking here. The customer service and overall experience were the worst ever.

Having shops and restaurants nearby was convenient, and the private balcony gave us a peaceful place to enjoy the ocean views. After days out exploring, our room was a clean, comfortable retreat with everything we needed. The staff were friendly and accommodating from the moment we arrived. We had a fantastic stay at Blue Orchids Beach Hotel and highly recommend it for a relaxing, enjoyable beach holiday.
