The room was tiny, with a small, uncomfortable bed, and I couldn’t sleep because the pipes were so noisy. I also heard everything from the rooms around me, since there was no soundproofing. The place felt very old, and the heating didn’t work. It was switched off when I arrived, and turning on the radiators made no difference. Then an alarm went off for no reason at 5:30 am and woke the whole hotel. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all.

Breakfast was just okay, and the coffee was terrible. The hotel is near the city centre, but next time I’ll look for somewhere else nearby. Its three star “Royal” label doesn’t match the value: our room was tiny, and we could hear every sound from inside and outside. The room and the whole stay fell well short.

What stayed with me was how warmly we were welcomed. The chef and receptionist are a talented couple, and meeting them brought the whole experience together. The man at reception felt authentic, dining was done in a creative way, and the approach to drinking felt honest. I also loved relaxing in the lounge and the little surprise of seeing the finishing touch in our room. The booklet was creative and looked great. Its history was so valuable to read, though, that the 42% bit became pretty funny. Thanks again for such a warm reception. Every now and then you get reminded of the connection people share, and this hotel gave me that feeling, for who you are as a person.

The hotel, staff, and breakfast were all nice. The internet was down for almost two days, and they couldn’t work out why. They gave me access to the internal network instead. From an IT security point of view, that’s not a good idea. If they do this often, be careful with the network, since there could already be some “surprises” waiting there.

I liked the personal touch of being able to leave my bicycle in their private garage. The staff were friendly, and the hotel has a nice feel to it. It’s a pretty classic place, with good rooms and a nice spot right in the city centre.
