Astoria Hotel Antwerp

The location is excellent, right in central Antwerp with supermarkets within walking distance. The rooms are large, clean and pleasant. One thing that could be improved is the towels: there's only one per person and no hand towel.

The staff didn't seem to care about the conditions, and the place felt neglected and dirty. I left early and got another hotel, so it was a total waste of money. In my room, the sheets were stained, the bathroom moldy, and there was a terrible smell throughout. Everything looked outdated, filthy and like it was falling apart. Half the equipment didn't work: the air conditioning was broken, the TV wouldn't turn on, and the shower barely had any water pressure. The furniture looked decades old and ready to collapse. I've never seen maintenance this poor. Do NOT book this place, you'll regret it.

The bathroom was clean, though the water pressure was weak. There were a couple of broken things and missing lightbulbs in the room, no biggie. Staff at reception were attentive, and breakfast options were decent. A good choice for a work trip, less so for a vacation, and especially convenient if you arrive in Antwerp by train.

The technician explanation sounded like a lie after I read other people's reviews. It seemed they never intended to fix the air conditioning for us. The rooms also looked old and dirty, and I overheard the couple next door having trouble locking their door, but the problem was brushed aside. Avoid at all cost. Check-in went smoothly, but we found the AC wasn't working in our room. The front desk moved us to another, which smelled of cigarettes and had no working AC either. The next room was the same, and they advised us to leave the window open even though full AC was advertised. The young lady at reception tried her best, but said there was nothing she could do because technicians don't work on weekends. What kind of hotel is that? We asked for a refund right away and booked another hotel on the spot. I'd never had to do that before and hope I don't again.
