Hotel Antwerp Billard Palace

I didn’t feel safe leaving my things in the room, since another guest could apparently get in through an adjoining roof. The building was filthy and smelled of toilets, dust, and smoke. Lights and switches were broken, and there were cigarette burns everywhere, including on the curtains. The lack of attention to cleanliness caused an eye infection for me. This is a budget hotel, but spending the extra 10 euros to stay somewhere else is worth it. The staff were unfriendly, especially the white-haired English man, who was rude and seemed not to care about guests. Avoid this place at all costs.

The location was the only good thing about this stay. I spent three nights there, arriving in Antwerp on Friday, August 19, 2022, and leaving on August 22. On Friday night, noise from a party outside and doors banging kept me from sleeping. Saturday morning I put a “do not disturb” sign on my door. When I got back that afternoon, the bath towel was gone. Reception said he wasn’t in charge of the cleaning team and couldn’t do anything, though he’d write it down and sort it out. I ended up using a hand or face towel after showering. By Sunday the bath towel was still missing, and the party noise continued. Staff may sound friendly or helpful, but nothing gets done.

We were traveling as a group and had two rooms. One had bed bugs; in the other, there was a used condom between the beds. The heater didn’t work, there was noise pollution, and the smoke detector was defective. We got no refund, just snarky remarks. That says enough. Don’t stay here.

The only upside is how close it is to the central station. Otherwise, I really wouldn’t recommend booking this hotel or spending your money here. The rooms are tiny and the cleanliness was below average. We booked a double room, but it felt like a hostel room, with two separate beds in a small verandah area. There were mosquitoes and spiders. We paid 60 euros for the room, and it wasn’t worth it.
