We paid £125 a night for one small room, which I found very expensive. For four nights, the total was £500. We booked for three adults and two children, and were shocked by how cramped it was for five people. The rooms were very dirty, with insects everywhere. The narrow, winding stairs to the third floor felt dangerous. I wouldn’t recommend this place for older people or anyone with health or eyesight problems. The hotel said it could provide parking, which was misleading. It couldn’t, and my car was towed. I had to pay £170 to get it back. There isn’t even a front desk or waiting room. This so-called hotel is a hazard, really just a room with no other facilities. Avoid it.

I spent six weeks here in October and November 2015 during a traineeship at Hapag-Lloyd Antwerp Office. For a studio in this category it was good overall, with enough space for one person and a very good location near the city center. The large room and bathroom were clean when I arrived, and Hotel staff cleaned them once a week. Towels were changed daily. The personnel were very friendly and helped with small problems and questions. A good, cheap breakfast was available at Antigone Hotel, where you also check in and out. It’s a good place for one or two people. The windows could block outside noise better, though. Sometimes it was a bit loud.

Under new ownership since December, the hotel is right in the middle of the old city, close to everything. The room was nice and clean, the price was good, and it was great value.

The location is the one good thing, though it also makes the place noisy. It gets very hot, and apparently there’s no longer a reception in the building. The internet was out for a week, and the owners were very unfriendly and hard to reach. The kitchenette was badly equipped: no spoons, bowls, or pots, even though it has stovetop burners. The shower drain was clogged, and the flooring is so strange that you can practically only walk around the room with shoes on.

The owner understood that we really wanted to check out on time, and that made up for some of the disappointment. The stairs felt dangerous, the check-in and check-out times didn’t match the website, and there was no way to cool the room. It was so noisy that sleeping was impossible. Not the best experience.
