Hotel Rubens - Grote Markt

The room was clean and spacious for two, and the staff were friendly. The location was great too. Still, I booked three nights and was woken at 6 am on Monday, then at 6:30 on each of the next two mornings. That wasn't what I expected from the notice about construction next door. I didn't need a morning call on my holiday.

The location is amazing, with Groen mark, the surrounding area and the river all close by. The rooms were fantastic, and breakfast was the best. I didn't hear a peep from the construction.

I couldn't get decent high-speed Internet. My download speed was only 1 to 5 Mbps, which was unacceptable, and I didn't notice anything telling me I had to register for it. If I missed the instructions, they should be made more obvious to guests. The open shower was another problem for me. Skipping a door may be convenient, but every shower left the bathroom floor flooded. I really hate that setup. We had a deluxe twin facing the rear, with construction noise right outside the window. You might want to request a quiet room facing the street instead.

The spacious deluxe garden-view room was clean, and staff answered messages right away, which was a big plus. The hotel is well located and the staff are nice. Tomas was very professional. I took off a star because of the bathroom and the construction noise.
