B&B Bertem Natuur

We were there for five nights and had expected a room with a view, but ours was in a barn with a disappointing outlook. The room was okay and the bed comfortable. The hob didn’t work, and although it was fixed after three days, nobody let us know. The blind was broken and the floorboards squeaked. I also thought we’d get fresh towels at least once. We didn’t try breakfast, though it looked okay. For the price, I expected more. Hotels were cheaper and offered better service. It’s probably more suitable for business travelers, and I likely wouldn’t stay again.

The breakfast was pretty good, though it could be improved a bit. It’s a lovely B&B with nice rooms, but they’re quite different from one another, so I’d check which room you’re booking if you can. It’s quiet outside, apart from the animal sounds you’d expect in a small village.

There was barely any water in the morning. I waited a while before a weak stream came from the tap, and I didn’t want to risk taking a shower. At checkout they said it was due to water pressure, but didn’t apologize. After a long journey, I had to manage an uncomfortable day on my own with a busy day ahead. Breakfast also cost 20 euros per person, despite this being advertised as a bed and breakfast. When I asked about it, the hostess was defensive and unapologetic, and came across as aggressive during our stay. We were also charged extra for arriving later in the evening, though that hadn’t been mentioned at booking or clearly explained. It felt like a penalty instead of a welcome. The stay felt misleading and unwelcoming, and didn’t provide the basic comfort, clarity, or courtesy I’d expect from a B&B. I’d tell our travel agent to take it off the list. I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through what we did, and I wouldn’t return.

The room got too warm, and the curtains wouldn’t close all the way. There was some noise, no restaurants nearby, and the mobile reception was really poor.
