Value Stay Blankenberge

The room itself was clean and nice, and the hotel is in a convenient spot and good value. But we arrived around 18-19 pm to find nobody at reception to check us in, register us or hand over the keys. There was only a phone number, and getting the keys turned into a confusing hassle. The room also got uncomfortably warm at night, even though the weather in Blakenberge was chilly and rainy. There’s no air-conditioning. The shower soap dispenser was empty, and the Wi-Fi kept having connection problems. The service didn’t feel welcoming.

No hot water, and the radiators didn’t work, so we froze all night. There was nobody at the desk to fix anything. The rooms were old and smelled bad, and the towels were old and rough. Check-in was later and checkout earlier than anywhere I’ve seen. The service and welcome were awful too. It was pricey for a night that turned into a complete nightmare. I’ve stayed in some bad places, but this was the worst hotel I’ve ever set foot in, and I’d give it zero stars if I could. I’m never going back to this poor excuse for a hotel.

The room was clean and comfortable, and the location was decent, but the reception manager ruined our stay. He kept cutting me off and wouldn’t let me speak. He’d forgotten to leave our key in an envelope in the security box, then insisted that without an envelope with my name there was no booking, even though we’d paid two weeks earlier. He wouldn’t look at my confirmation emails and kicked us out. I was nearly ready to call the police. While he was shouting at me that we had no reservation, my friend spotted it on his computer under my second family name. He went into his office, came back with the key, and gave no apology at all for his rude behavior. Terrible experience with this man.

The hotel’s near the centre, but that only earns it two stars from me. My room had poor soundproofing, and I could hear the neighbors’ TV. The bathroom cold water sputtered with air. Breakfast is available if you ask in advance. Sorry.
