Van Der Valk Hotel Dennenhof

The restaurant food was better than I expected and really pleased my palate. I also had a good experience with the reception team: the professionals there handled every request I made, whether online or at the desk. I’d recommend the hotel for a personal getaway or as a place for business.

I stayed in an executive room in the main building, and it was top notch. The roomservice food and breakfast were delicious too. I’d read reviews saying the annexe rooms were a 20-minute walk away, but for me it was 5 minutes. To get to Brasschaat, you’ll need a taxi or the busstop right in front.

We came for a few drinks with family on New Year’s Eve. We’re from the travelling community, and I got the impression the bold headed manager knew that and was standoffish from the start. I saw him repeatedly go back and whisper to staff. Before anyone asked me for the bill or told me to leave, the police had already been called. I couldn’t understand why. They put the bill in front of me and I paid it, even though we hadn’t done anything wrong. The kids were getting a bit wild, I’ll admit, but otherwise things seemed fine. When the police came into the hotel, the children were frightened and crying. Calling them, especially in front of the kids, felt disgusting. I’ve stayed at a lot of Vandervalk hotels without any problem. This felt like very disgusting and racist behaviour.

I was disappointed. Noise went on all night, like furniture being dragged or something coming from the heating system, and I woke up every couple of hours. The lights outside the room shone in too much, so I couldn’t get it dark.
