Le dernier métro

Le Dernier Metro is a charming place with friendly people, clean rooms and personal service. If you'd like to get a feel for living in the center of Brussels, book ahead. It made my vacation unique.

Mediocre.

The location is good, but I found the rest of the experience very poor. The place isn't signposted, and nobody asks for ID. On entering, you share a small bathroom and toilet with the owner, right opposite his office, and the toilet wasn't very clean. Beyond another door, which can be locked at night, there's a second bathroom with two sinks. The wall had toothpaste splatters, the tub had hair in it, and there were 18 used bottles of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. A little basket held dozens more bottles from different hotels, some uncapped and used, all dusty. The room's cleanliness was questionable too. Breakfast, despite the owner's efforts, felt mostly unhygienic: used jars of Nutella and jam, dirty placemats and cups. It was completely embarrassing to see all this while the owner was there, calm and satisfied with what he was offering.

The metro is only 20 meters away and goes straight to the city center. Our host was very warm, friendly, attentive and helpful. In the morning he brought breakfast to our room: soft-boiled eggs, croissants, bread, butter, jam, orange juice, plus coffee and tea.
