Hotel Montana

We really appreciated the owners' help finding a parking spot, and they were friendly and supportive with recommendations and directions. It's a family-run place. Breakfast was a strong point too, especially the cheese selection and bread. The location is quiet, with nice restaurants close by, just a few minutes on foot to the beach and about ten minutes to the city center. Our room was warm in January, clean, and had a large comfortable bed, so we slept well. Some renovation would be welcome, but the price feels fair for what you get. This one's a keeper.

A very affordable, cheerful family-run hotel, about 200 yards from the beach. The buffet was huge and delicious, spread across three tables, with bacon and scrambled eggs brought from the kitchen. It's a handy base for the Operation Dynamo beaches at Dunkirk, or for taking the tram along the Belgian coast from the French border to Holland for just €5. I'll be back in spring.

The friendly hosts clearly do their best, and the buffet breakfast was well above what I'd expect from this class of hotel. The mattresses and linen were good, and the place seemed generally clean, though one towel had large blood marks. That may have been a mistake, but it shouldn't happen. It's very close to the sea and main street, but the hotel feels chaotic and old-fashioned, with second-hand-looking furniture, dated wall decor, and old beds. The main entrance door was broken and extremely noisy at night. I hope they fix it for future guests and the neighbors. For this price, I wouldn't return. I'd rather stay farther from the sea for better value. At a reasonable price I'd rate it one point higher, but the overall quality would also need to improve for more.

Hotel Montana earns five stars from me. It matched its description, the staff are incredibly friendly, and its location works well for what I need. There's parking and a great honesty bar too.
