The countryside around Le Rideux is gorgeous, with lovely routes for walking and biking. Durbuy is about a 20-minute drive, and we found it the nicest town in the Ardennes, picture-perfect and maybe a little chic, with plenty of restaurants. Heyd and Weris are beautiful nearby villages, though they don’t have many facilities. The closest supermarket is about ten minutes away by car. We stayed in the large Hinde apartment. It’s roomy enough for a family with kids or two couples, with two big bedrooms, a huge bathroom, and a comfortable living area. The design feels modern and cozy, the kitchen has all the necessary appliances, and the adjoining terrace gets sun. Huge upstairs windows look out over the well-kept garden and valley. Breakfast had a wide selection, including local products, and the coffee was great. We loved the natural pool, and there are lots of comfortable loungers around the grounds. The owners are friendly and easygoing, and helpful in a pleasantly discreet way. They know the area and are available with advice on restaurants and outings. Dinner is offered at the B&B several days a week, though we didn’t try it. In my opinion, the rooms at Le Rideux are good value. A great choice for a stay in the Ardennes countryside.

Just to be clear, I never stayed here. I cancelled after the owners’ attitude about a “pet friendly bnb” and basic hospitality put me off. I was told I might not need to bring my own bed sheets, which made me wonder if I was booking a campsite or a night in a B&B. Breakfast would cost an extra €15. I’ve travelled a lot and never had a B&B charge extra for breakfast, though I have at hotels. Even a simple question about whether dogs were allowed got a less and less pleasant answer, followed by a long list of things my dog wasn’t allowed to do that night. It was basically everything except breathing. The person welcoming us said the dog would be best off waiting in the car, and the message was written in a really bossy, commanding tone. I still feel sorry about their “professional approach”. There are plenty of other lovely places and wonderful people in Ardennes.

There’s a lot to enjoy here: a varied breakfast buffet, a lovely dining room and terrace with a view, and a friendly welcome. The owners are generally polite and pleasant. It’s child-friendly, parking is plentiful, and you can rent a jacuzzi, sauna, or Vespa. The grounds are spacious, with a beautiful garden, little soccer field, vegetable patch with home-grown produce, swimming pond, and several terraces. I think every room has a lovely view. The rooms are nicely furnished and have enough modern comforts, and the mattresses are good. My only small wish is for each person to have a matching pillow. I have very few complaints otherwise. I think B&B Le Rideux has been around for a good three years. I’d rate it 9.5/10. When I ask myself if I’d return, the answer is a resounding yes.

The complex is fantastic, with a view down into the valley, and the location is handy for nearby cycling routes. Our room was lovely, clean, and had a wood-burning stove; the beds were good too. Breakfast was tasty and very complete, served by a lovely hostess. We’ll definitely be back!

The garden’s organic vegetables go straight from the plot to your plate, and there’s a relaxing lounge, a swimming pond, and a breathtaking view. Everything’s peaceful and quiet, with a warm welcome and friendly service. Breakfast was delicious too. TIP: sign up for the tasty dinner, served twice a week. Highly recommended!
