The location and staff were good. Pretty much everything else was a letdown. We paid nearly 200 euros including breakfast, which feels like premium-room money, but the room was very small and the lights flicked on several times overnight. We barely slept. The tiny TV had hundreds of channels, but they were all pitch black. There was no way to stream or connect our own device, so I was glad I’d brought a tablet. The guest Wi-Fi didn’t work at all. The minibar was empty, with not even a free bottle of water. The bathroom was cramped enough for only one person. The shower had the same hand soap as the sink and no shampoo. I immediately regretted using that soap on my hair. Breakfast at 18 euros per person was terrible, even disgusting. I don’t know how scrambled eggs can be messed up so badly, but these tasted like they’d been mixed with some kind of stinky cheese. The bread was stale, the sausages were dry, there was no bacon, and there wasn’t much else to choose from. Parking was also insufficient, so we had to leave the car on the roadside. We’ve stayed in plenty of hotels and B&Bs at different prices, including places under 100 euros with breakfast that were far better. I can’t understand the good reviews when this was the most basic, almost spartan hotel experience I’ve had for the price of a luxury room with every possible amenity.

The staff were genuinely nice and welcoming. Everything else was frustrating. I needed internet to work, but there was no connection, not even in the lobby, so getting anything done was impossible. The room was incredibly small. I’m not sure whether the restaurant is run by the same company, but the service there was very poor. They added a fee because we hadn’t ordered a main course, then, when we questioned the bill, said, “We forgot to tell you.” The food also took ages.

The room was otherwise very good, but it was a bit more compact than we’d expected. It was meant to sleep four, though it really only felt big enough for three. The mezzanine stairs were very steep, and there was hardly any headroom up there. The bed advertised as a double only just fit one teenager. My other teenager and I used the two singles downstairs, since my dodgy knees couldn’t manage those stairs.

The lobby was pleasant, with its restaurant, fireplace, and cocktails, and breakfast was good. We were staying in the heart of the beautiful Ardennes, but the rooms were very small. The upper bed didn’t feel safe enough to sleep in. There was no kettle, and the bathroom smelled a little damp.

We really like this place, and the people are very nice. From our last stay, we expected to find coffee and tea makers in the room. It was a pity they weren’t in the section we stayed in this time, but the group was given a water boiler so we could make tea and instant coffee ourselves.
