Gite Terre de ciel

The garden is spacious, with a playground for the kids and a pétanque area. There's also a big garage with children's toys and a foosball table, plus a barbecue and outdoor dining table. Parking in front is plentiful. Inside, the dining room has a large table for 10 and highchairs. We were a family of five in Gite 2, with four bedrooms, four double beds, and four bathrooms, so several families could stay and still have privacy. The kitchen is fully equipped. Everything was very clean and hygienic, especially the bathrooms. There are no doors on the bathrooms, though, so there's less privacy in the room. Not every bedroom can be locked either, though you can at least lock your room when using the bathroom or toilet. The living room has no windows, which makes it feel less pleasant during the day. We didn't meet the hostess because she was on vacation, but we contacted her through the app and she was very friendly. Her friend welcomed us kindly and respectfully, and checked us out. It's a shame you can't rent towels or bed linens here. We were told Belgian law doesn't allow it in holiday homes, though another place we booked with family the following week in the same area did offer them. There's no washing machine either, despite one appearing in the booking photos, but there are laundromats in nearby villages. Highly recommended if the weather is nice and you have a car.

The small gite for four people seemed promising because of its fenced garden, but it wasn't a good fit for us. The bedrooms are upstairs, reached by very steep stairs with tiny steps. Our large dog sleeps on a rug at the foot of the bed, so I slept on the couch to avoid him hurting a leg on the stairs. There's no accessible bathroom on the ground floor either. The shower and sink weren't accessible at all, as the photos show. If you have a large dog or a disability, I'd avoid it. The rest seemed okay by Belgian standards.

The owners were really friendly and gave us a warm welcome. The house is tidy and very well cared for, and the location is beautiful.

A lovely place, with an owner who's very attentive to making sure we have everything we need for comfort.
