BnB Boat

The hosts made the stay especially enjoyable, with tasty breakfasts that had plenty of variety and useful local tips. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the boat sits right by the lovely Ghent canals with beautiful views. It also worked well as a base for visiting Antwerp and Brussels. This is a real gem for a solo traveler after something different or a couple wanting a romantic break. I can’t wait to come back and make more memories there.

Breakfast was arranged with the host, and there’s a nice view all around, with quiet streets and a small private roof terrace for guests. The renovated freight ship is close to Ghent’s city center, and the owner lives in the larger section. The guest room sits at the very front, cleverly built into the boat’s nose, with a bedroom, a small shower and toilet area, and a large round bed in the middle. Upstairs there’s a little sitting area with a bar style spot for breakfast, plus a good fridge and coffee machine. A few drawbacks: the dehumidifier blows all night with a snorting sound, and there are no curtains, so the early light comes in. There’s nowhere to hang a coat either. It’s not suitable for people with disabilities or anyone who’s too large.

The rooms were a little small, though that’s what you’d expect on a boat, and we slept comfortably enough. Breakfast was very nice. The location felt just right, only a short walk from the main part of town. We really enjoyed our stay.

Every morning, Maartin brought a tasty breakfast hamper to our front door, and the rooms were fab, made even more fun by being on a big boat. It was a great change from boring hotels. Maartin was lovely and helpful, and when a minor issue came up, he handled it quickly, professionally, and sensitively. We had a lovely stay and will come back.
