There was a mini fridge stocked with items for an extra charge, plus free tea and coffee with a kettle. Reception staff were pleasant enough and gave us a map. The lobby was comfortable, and the location is really good, close to great restaurants, bars and the high street. Our room was nicely decorated, with a comfortable bed and pillows. The shower had good pressure and heat. The bathroom had a strange smell, a bit like stale urine. The wall-mounted hairdryer was basic, and the toilet paper wasn’t very soft. The doors are thin, so we heard a lot from the corridor, including voices and cleaners.

The location is nice, but a few things got in the way of a comfortable stay. The power went out several times in the morning, which was disruptive, and the hotel couldn’t lend me a travel adapter, an inconvenience for international travelers. There was renovation work next door, too, so noise and some dust may depend on which way your room faces. I stayed at Ghent River Hotel for one night.

We spent one night in room 130. It was a very luxurious, quiet room, with a coffee machine and mini bar. The shower and bed were both good, and the breakfast was really very good. I’d recommend this hotel.

The rooms were too expensive for what they offered, and they didn’t match the description on the website.

When our flight home was cancelled during a busy period, the staff at Ghent River Hotel went out of their way to find us another night. That turned what would have been a five into a six. Before that, we’d already enjoyed the canal-side rooms, which were especially lovely, clean and comfortable rooms, and the lounge and garden seating. Breakfast was fantastic too. It’s a great location, and we’d happily stay again and recommend it to anyone visiting Ghent.
