The atmosphere here is what makes this hostel stand out. Otto spay paints the walls with magical beings, and someone was painting the indoor caravans while people came and went in the shared kitchen. I spent time outside swapping adventure stories with new friends. Cheers to Rhoda from Northern Ireland and Maxim from Lille! On the day I left, they even put on a drawing contest. Such a great idea. I found this place while bike packing from Germany to London. A dorm bed was a reasonable 25€, with the breakfast buffet another 5€, and I’d definitely recommend the breakfast. There’s everything you might need: showers, a kitchen, a large dining space, sofas to relax on, a Kicker table, outdoor seating, and a bar serving local craft beers.

I can’t speak to the facilities since I didn’t stay, but the customer service was good. They were kind and understanding when I explained why I had to cancel, and refunded me even though they didn’t have to. I did need to follow up with them, but I eventually got my money back.

The staff were welcoming and helpful, and the walk into the city centre took about 20 minutes, which worked perfectly for us. My girlfriend and I spent three nights in a Mini Caravan. The beds were comfortable, and there were cupboards for our things. It got pretty warm at night, so we left the door open for more air and that fixed it. The cupboard top was oddly sticky, though, even my glasses and hair elastics stuck to it. Treck Hostel is a beautiful, fun place to stay in Gent. The camping and caravan setup made me think of a theme park!

The breakfast is simple, but a nice way to start the day. The dorms and shower were clean, and I really liked the place and its decorations.

We arrived at short notice after the Dutch train strikes, well after reception hours, but checking in was no trouble. They even showed us around at about midnight. That service was fantastic. The concept is unlike anything I’ve seen, and I loved it. My friend and I had booked two beds in a 12-bed room, but got a small private room with a three-person bunk bed instead. A fantastic upgrade. We were there for less than 10 hours, but I loved the clean place and its great vibes. I’ll definitely stay here next time I’m in Gent.
