La Vieille Tour

The breakfast was a letdown too. Nothing was ready, and when we ran out of bread, we were only then given toppings. The whole stay felt like we had to handle everything ourselves, from searching and calling when we arrived to getting someone’s attention at dinner. Our room was disappointing, the host seemed unfriendly, and the hotel was noisy. Dinner was awkward: the table hadn’t been set, nobody asked if we wanted a drink, and we couldn’t find out what food we’d be served because the host spoke only his own language. The price didn’t match what we got. People come to a hotel to relax, not to keep asking for basic things. I wouldn’t recommend it.

We were already on our way when we got a message from the owner at 1:30 PM saying the hotel was full and we couldn’t stay. We had booked at La Veille Tour in April for the end of August, for today and tomorrow. We tried calling, but as soon as we said we didn’t speak French, they hung up on us twice.

Breakfast was excellent, and the owner gave us a warm welcome when we arrived. We stayed two nights in a simple, tidy, clean room, though it was quite noisy.

The setting is rural, and we spent one night in this converted farmhouse. Our room worked well for three people and had a shower. Breakfast was generous, with the owner serving it himself and making an effort to make the stay enjoyable.
