The rooms are spacious, though they could use air conditioning or at least fans to make them cooler. Breakfast has lots to choose from, and the food I've tried has been really good. The staff are warm and welcoming too.
4/10
The rooms were clean, but smaller than they looked in the photos. Service took a long time, and the restaurant was closed for a couple of days while I was there. There was no Wi-Fi in the room, and for the price, I wouldn't stay here again on my next trip.

It was okay.
2/10
Eating alone, I found the service good, but the salad was a disappointment. I paid about 17 euros for goat cheese, bacon, and a heap of raw vegetables drenched in sour vinaigrette. The menu description also mentioned apple and honey, but neither was on the plate. They asked whether I wanted bread, though no one offered it without prompting. Not acceptable at all.
10/10
It's such a shame The Lodge Houthalen will be closing for good soon. It's a charming spot to begin a cycling holiday, and the staff are friendly, attentive, and helpful. The hotel and brasserie are both well worth recommending, with delicious food at the brasserie.
