We only meant to stay one night, but liked it enough to add another. The castle is 370 years old, and the Baron, Baroness and their 11th-generation son were wonderful hosts who happily shared its history and showed us inside. The accommodation, breakfast and walks around the grounds and nearby area were all top class. Ghent is about 20 minutes away and Lille about 35, and it costs less than staying in either city. We’d definitely come back and recommend spending time here.

The converted coach house has all the modern comforts, including air conditioning, and the rooms are on a par with the best four-star hotels. It sits on a beautiful estate where the lord and lady of the castle live, so the grounds are private. The aristocratic owners are warm, funny and easy to talk to. At breakfast, the baron makes eggs from his own farm. This is a B&B, and highly recommended. Booking on its own website is best. There’s no official taxi service, so you’ll need Uber or Bolt, the European alternative.

The rooms feel cozy and have all the modern comforts, while the place itself has plenty of authentic charm. A lovely spot to stay, especially if you want to enjoy the nature in the morning.
