The only bright spot was the lovely woman who handled breakfast. She was sweet and kind to my family. The owner, though, made this the worst hotel stay I’ve had in at least ten years, maybe ever, despite having traveled across Europe, Asia, and North America. I won’t stay here again, and I’ll tell people I know to avoid it. It’s a real shame he chose to behave this way. We needed a place to stay because torrential flooding in Belgium had damaged our home and left it uninhabitable. My employer and insurer wanted to move my family elsewhere because of the poor room quality, the owner’s rudeness, and the distance from my work. I gave the owner at least two days’ notice and asked whether he’d refund the unused nights to my card. He said he would if Booking.com returned the commission on those nights. I checked with Booking.com, and they agreed. They also called him and confirmed it. Later, he summoned me rudely to the dining area, as though I were a child, and said he’d spoken to police and found “2 people” who called me “a bad person.” That was false and laughable. I’m in Belgium under diplomatic status and know my standing here. He showed me an email from a rental car company about a failed card payment, but neither my name nor my card appeared in it, and I’d never used my Mastercard with that company. He then said he didn’t trust the Booking.com agent because their call center was in Singapore, and blamed Booking.com for the whole thing, even though they’d already explained and disproved his claims. At checkout he seemed ready to make things right and said he’d refund me in a week or two. When a second Booking.com agent called, he pretended not to speak English, despite almost all our conversations having been in English. He also refused several times to give me his name. Now he’s told me he won’t refund the unused nights, despite knowing our home was uninhabitable and contrary to what he’d promised. The trouble started at check-in. There was a small reservation mismatch through Booking.com: it showed one child instead of two. But I’d booked two rooms, including the bunk bed room, for 13 nights, so it should have been easy to sort out. The owner kept bringing it up rudely, even though it didn’t change what we needed. Around the same time, because we were displaced and had to change hotels often, my card had an unknown fraud alert. I fixed it before checking in at Hotel de Luxembourg, and the owner had already successfully charged the card. Still, he kept complaining about it for days, even confirming more than once that the bill had been paid. The only other thing I can say is that everything circled in the picture is listed on their Booking.com page, but is either badly misrepresented or completely false.

We had a lovely stay and will come back. The place is cute, clean, and wonderfully located, and both the charming host and his mother made us feel welcome. The price for what you get is very good, and their warm hospitality made it all the nicer.

Great location, lovely place and breakfast, and such friendly people.

A really charming hotel and restaurant. Jeannot is the best chef I’ve ever come across. Everyone should give it a try.

Just a short walk from the village center.
