We were welcomed so warmly by the reception staff, and Celine spoke English and explained everything clearly. The room was spacious and quiet, with a river view, a very comfortable bed and a big, powerful shower. Tea and coffee facilities were in the room, and bottled water was included in the rate. The hotel was easy to find by car. There’s free street parking, or a reduced rate at the barrier car park next door. It’s below the citadel by the river, about a 10 minute walk to the shopping centre and 7 minutes to the cable car base.

We stayed three nights at Mercure Namur at the start of April 2026. After an eight hour trip, we stood with our luggage while the only receptionist on duty spent a long time chatting with the guest ahead of us about his family, why he was travelling, and what he might do during his stay. It was a genuinely lovely exchange, but when it ended, she didn’t greet or acknowledge us. She kept looking at her computer, as if hoping we’d leave if she ignored us long enough. Eventually we got a room card and were charged €169 for city tax instead of the correct €9. When we queried it, the mistake was dismissed without an apology. It left a very poor first impression that stayed with us. The location is excellent and our room was spacious and comfortable, with a nice bathroom and a lovely view over the river. The rate was extremely good value, and the beds were the most comfortable I’ve ever known. The hotel is new and clean, though our room was dusty and didn’t block sound very well. We heard nearby rooms and odd noises through the night from the casino in the same building. Housekeeping carts were left in the corridors day and night, presumably so guests could help themselves to coffee, biscuits and other daily items. Practical, but not very elegant. The spa was tiny but okay. The restaurant looked nice, though we didn’t try it because we couldn’t find a menu online or in the room. A decent stay after a bad start. I’d give it 4 out of 5, minus one star for the receptionist.

The wellness area was dirty, unpleasant, and badly cared for. The hot tub wasn’t filled enough and made a terrible racket. I went once and wouldn’t go back. It wasn’t worth paying extra for wellness. Breakfast was okay but poorly organised. On the first morning I had to convince them I’d booked it, then got no apology, just “my colleague didn’t tell me.” I had to search around for bowls and spoons, and the hot food had been sitting under the heat lamp too long. I wouldn’t do it again.

The Wi-Fi is unusable unless you use a VPN. The speed may be 100 Mbps, but everything is blocked, so you can’t use Discord or play even one game. It seems to be set up this way to push people toward the casino. If you want to play a video game after work, this is the wrong hotel. Stay away from this awful place. I’ve had to give one star just to post a review.

The river views are good, and the rooms and service were good too. It’s a typical Mercure hotel, though the attached casino rather dwarfs it. The restaurant was okay, but a bit posh, and I missed being able to plug in my laptop. The Wi-Fi was so poor I couldn’t post this review the first time.
