We had a very comfortable room and a warm welcome at the Neptunus. It’s in a lovely spot by the canal, and Nieuwport is an easy walk away. Breakfast was great, and there’s a bar and restaurant downstairs with great beer, obviously! We really enjoyed our stay and will come back if we can.

Be careful booking here. We arrived at night, and they said they were ill and at the hospital, but a couple came and collected keys from a locker. Our room, which we had already paid for, had apparently been resold. It looked like they’d given it to someone else and charged them more than the Booking price. The owner was rude and acted as though they couldn’t understand any language except Vlaams. When they found out we speak Vlaams too, they were still rude while trying to explain something that made no sense. They messaged us asking us to cancel the Booking reservation, but we refused. Booking relocated us and compensated us. Worst place ever.

The prices were extremely high. The menu said the fish was fresh, but it was definitely frozen. A shrimp salad was €35, and two shrimp kroketten cost €28. Very pricey.

The food was nice, but service took far too long. Expect to wait 45-60 minutes between ordering and getting your food.
