Hotel Monarc

Breakfast was satisfying and good value, but the stay overall felt disappointing for the price. The room was clean and the bed was very good, though it didn’t feel like a room in a 4 star hotel. The minibar had only water, and it was warm. There was no shoe horn, printed or digital service manual or tourist information, makeup mirror, toothbrush can, writing utensils, or facial tissues.

The one bright spot was the fine breakfast. The rest was deeply disappointing, and the booking listing made false claims. The south-facing room was overheated, 28.5°C at 8pm and 26°C at 8am, with no airco. It was advertised as 'deluxe', but there was no luxury: the room was tiny, barely leaving space to walk around the bed, and had no cupboard. The balcony was tiny and dangerous, so unusable. The bathroom smelled mouldy, the minibar was tiny and not cold, and both the window and reading light were defective. It was noisy from the busy street, traffic, partygoers, and tramway. The advertised scenic view was of apartment blocs. This felt like a con.

The only snag was that we couldn’t get a kettle and tea tray for our room. Otherwise, it’s a lovely boutique-style hotel, a short walk from the nearest tram stop, the Kurzal Casino, and the bars. Breakfast had a lovely spread with good continental choices.

This is our absolute favorite in town. The hotel is brand new, with high-end rooms and warm interior finishes. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
