The rooms looked lovely, though they could have been cleaner. Breakfast was very good.

Breakfast was excellent, with two friendly, hardworking women serving it. The rooms were comfortable and roomy, and the bathrooms had everything we needed. My only complaint was that there was no bottled water in the room, and asking for some meant paying seven euros per bottle.

We asked for one dish to share and two portions of fries. The waitress spent so much time telling us what not to order that she still got the order wrong. She said the fries were €5 each and reminded us this was a restaurant, not a friterie, which was fine with us. In the end, we only got the two fries, and while serving them she dropped some on my girlfriend. I mentioned the mistake to her coworker when we paid, but the waitress didn’t come over to apologize.

The fish and chips had no seasoning at all, completely bland. And very, very expensive!

Hotel Rubens has a big restaurant, and the prices are very good. The small hotel is right on the seafront facing the harbour, with nice, clean rooms and a large, comfortable bed. Staff were friendly and spoke good English. If you’re driving, you can park for free across by the other harbour, then take the frequent free boat to the city centre side. From there it’s a five-minute walk to the hotel. The train station is also very close.
