Sable d'O

A super hotel.

The room downstairs was fine, and being close to the beach was nice. There was an unfortunate sewage smell, though it seemed to come from outside. The shower head and door could've been cleaner, and I would've preferred a regular bathroom door instead of glass. Breakfast was at another part of the hotel, a 48-minute walk away, so we took the tram in the morning. We got very little information about breakfast, the rules, or what time we had to leave. When someone was there, they barely spoke Dutch.

Fabian and Sonja were incredibly attentive, and we got a very warm welcome. The house is lovely, with tasteful decor, and the rooms felt spacious, comfortable, and clean. Breakfast was excellent too. I highly recommend it.

We decided to leave after only a few minutes because Sable d'O was nowhere near what we expected for €175. This is certainly not a "luxury" bed and breakfast. The owner said the charge would still stand and that it wasn't negotiable. We later made an official cancellation request through Booking.com, but the owner has kept that position, and we've been charged for the room. The first impression was already poor: guests were greeted in soiled work trousers, broken and dirty furniture had been left by the front steps for ages, and the garden looked like it hadn't been maintained for months. Inside, the doormat could've been cleaner, the common areas felt like my grandmother's living room, and neither the bedroom nor bathroom was heated when we arrived. We've stayed at many B&Bs in Belgium and France and received much better service at this price. Be aware, then, that customer satisfaction seems to count for nothing here. Whether you're happy or not, and whether the room is occupied or empty, you'll be charged, and they'll find another sucker next time.
