The rooms were clean, but they were much too hot, and ours didn’t have a fan. Some rooms did. We were charged too much for the one night we stayed. We had booked three nights but left after one because the way our family was treated felt hostile and discriminatory. The staff were repeatedly harsh with our children just for playing outside in the sunshine. At breakfast we were seated apart from other guests and initially told there were no eggs, while others had them. Only after we asked about that difference were we reluctantly given eggs. When we raised our concerns as we left, the owner told my Black wife to “only speak to him in his language.” It left us feeling that children and people who don’t speak the local language weren’t welcome. The treatment was deeply offensive.

The gardens and views are lovely, especially at sunset, and the grounds are well kept, although some areas are off limits. The pool is a natural pool, so it’s basically a pond with algae and goldfish. Some people may like that, but the website and listings don’t make it very clear. The rooms were basic but clean. With no air conditioning or fans, we had to leave the window open for a little breeze, but it was still unbearably hot and mosquitoes ate us alive. None of us slept. Breakfast was okay and the food seemed fresh, but nothing special. After the way the eggs were handled, I wondered if we’d been given the full menu. Under different management, it might be a pleasant place. We paid €230 per room for one night of what was meant to be a four-day trip, but we left after the first night. Right from arrival, we felt unwelcome. Our children were scolded repeatedly for ordinary things, including my daughter eating crisps outside and being told not to drop any, though she hadn’t dropped anything. We’d chosen the place because it claimed to be family friendly and had outdoor space, but the kids were glared at and told off for laughing, running on the grass, and going on particular parts of the same open lawn. We spent the whole stay trying to keep them quiet, even outside. There were six adults and four children, including my elderly parents and seven-month-old nephew, and it was over 30 degrees. None of our three rooms had air conditioning or fans. Devices that looked as if they might cool the rooms supposedly didn’t work. The woman said we hadn’t replied about our Booking.com reservation for four months and that the number of children wasn’t clear. That wasn’t true: the digital booking record from April included their ages and room arrangements. At breakfast my husband was told there were no eggs. He pointed out another guest’s plate, and she eventually served us a couple of boiled eggs, reluctantly. We were seated separately from everyone else. That alone didn’t bother us, but it added to the sense of being treated differently. As we paid and left, a man, I think the father of the woman who’d been our main contact, told my sister-in-law we should speak their language, then angrily ranted at us in Dutch. We’d been speaking English on holiday in Belgium. We can only make of that what we will. It was my son’s fourth birthday that day. Instead of celebrating, we had to pack, find somewhere else to stay, and drive off upset. My nine-year-old daughter asked why they hated us when we hadn’t done anything and had tried to be quiet. It was heartbreaking. Luckily, the kids will forget, and we won’t let small-minded, ignorant people ruin the rest of our holiday.

Honestly awful. These people were incredibly unfriendly and shouldn’t be in hospitality. Don’t go with children.

There’s potential here, but under the current management I wouldn’t recommend it or come back. Avoid it.

The service was extremely friendly, and breakfast was fantastic with nothing missing. I felt very comfortable here. It’s quiet, there’s plenty of parking, modern rooms, and a large shared room for guests. I’ll definitely come back.
