Gite Du Moulin

We had a good few days at Gîte de Moulin in mid-April. The rural setting suited us, the rooms were large and comfortable, the facilities all worked, and everything was clean. I’d have given five stars if the stay had ended there. After we got home, an email said €895 would be kept from our deposit to replace a broken wash-basin and launder soiled bedding. The basin was not broken when we left. The landlady sent a photo showing it broken, plus a check-out form bearing one of our signatures and acknowledging the bedding’s condition. None of us had signed a check-out form. We disputed the charges, and the letting agency handled arbitration. Eventually, the landlady provided receipts for the basin replacement and the laundry. Oddly, both the laundry and the new sink were billed by the same company. The person said to have signed the check-out form remembered signing a check-in form. What was presented as the check-out form was that same document, with extra writing added after her signature, acknowledging the bedding’s condition. Luckily, she had taken a rather obsessive photo of the form after signing it. We used that image to persuade the bank that the signed “check-out” form was forged. The bank eventually ruled in our favour, and we got the deposit back more than five months late. If you fancy staying at Gîte de Moulin, go ahead. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Just photograph anything you sign, and every facility in the building when you check out, in case you need evidence.
