Turnhout City Hotel

We got an easy check-in and check-out, and the staff were really friendly. The room was calm and cozy, with a tea and coffee maker, a fridge, and drinks provided by the hotel in both the lobby and the room. The terrace had comfortable-looking chairs right outside our room’s full-height windows, but the snowfall meant we couldn’t enjoy them. The hotel was quiet despite being between the railway tracks and a parking lot. Parking was free from 6pm to 9am, and on Sundays and holidays. The stylish design had lots of color in the lobby and hallway, while the rooms were tastefully decorated. Breakfast was served in a lovely room, and the selection was the biggest I’ve ever seen at a European city hotel. Beautiful, comfortable place. 10/10, thanks so much, highly recommended!

The room was a good size and came with complimentary water, beers, and chocolate. Staff were friendly, and the hotel sits right in central Turnhout. You can hear some trains because it’s next to the station, though the noise was pretty low. Morning traffic was noticeable but not too bad. The windows are set unusually low. Breakfast was pleasant, with a fairly standard selection for the region.

The room had nice furniture and fittings, and it was clean. There was also a good supply of shampoo, conditioner, and lotion in the bathroom. Those were the few positives in a poor stay. We only booked one night and were glad to leave the next day. I didn’t stay for breakfast, so I can’t comment on the restaurant. I did miss having coffee in the morning: there were two complimentary beers, but no pods for the fancy coffee machine in the room. The hotel is right at the station, with trains passing the bedroom window and buses going by too. People also walk past the ground-floor rooms, so keep the curtains closed if you don’t want them seeing into the bedroom and bathroom. We were in room 5 and heard people talking outside through the night. The walls were very thin, and our neighbors were making loud noise from 5 am. Traffic, buses, and trains made it hard to get a restful night. I was also uncomfortable with some of the other guests around check-in and check-out. They looked unsafe to me, perhaps because of the location, though I can’t be sure. I wouldn’t recommend it for a woman traveling alone or for families. There’s no parking on site. The website said private parking was available for 15€, but the bay was across the road, behind bins in a separate lot. After we checked in, we got a card to display in the car. When we came back from dinner, someone else was in our space, and the lot was full, so we had to find street parking. It seemed the staff weren’t monitoring the bays, which were out of their sight and control. This definitely didn’t feel like a four-star hotel, and I think its rating should be reassessed.

The service was super, and the hotel was perfect. The bed was so comfortable, and breakfast was the best ever!
