Guest House La Mairie

I followed all the terms and conditions, but my deposit still wasn’t refunded. The lack of transparency and failure to honor the agreement left me disappointed, and I can’t recommend this accommodation.

A very cute, historic guesthouse.

It's a lovely house in a beautiful spot, but a few things felt out of place for the price. We had to call twice because the heating was cold, and guests can't adjust it themselves. We booked the BBQ package at De Smockelaer for 22 people and got a mini barbecue for four instead. A larger one meant paying extra. Checkout on Sunday is 10 a.m., and staying longer also costs extra. It all seemed a bit odd.

The countryside around La Mairie is lovely, and the place itself has the feel of a well-kept little castle. We were impressed by how clean it was, especially the bathroom, which got plenty of compliments. Everything was beautifully finished and well equipped, particularly the kitchen, with lots of room to cook and eat together. Bedrooms were generous, with comfortable beds and linens, and the en suite bathroom felt like a luxury. The living room was spacious, though less suited to several groups at once. Rooms could be closed off for a bit of quiet. One of the best holiday homes we've visited in years, and we'd happily return.
