Hotel des Bains & Wellness

The pool was warm, and the food at the restaurant tasted great. We had a lovely, relaxing night here, with large, nice rooms and a great wellness area. A shame the hammam wasn’t working during our visit, though.

The hotel’s location near the Botrange is a real highlight. The nature reserve is stunning, and the spa was clean, modern and had a lovely pool. We enjoyed our time there. It wasn’t disinfected completely between each guest group, though I can imagine that’s very hard to do. I also disagree with the complaint about masks in the spa. Wearing one in a sauna? During Corona, each group could book the spa privately for an hour with people from their own bubble, which seemed sufficient to me. Our room was fine, if a little lived-in, and the bathroom could use an update after Corona. Staff were friendly, helpful and polite. The honesty bar was nice, though not amazing, and a coffee machine or tea-making setup there would have been great during Corona times. Food in Belgium was good, but very expensive for what it was. Since Corona meant we couldn’t eat anywhere except the hotel, we would have appreciated a more complete dining experience in our room, with a tablecloth and complimentary water, especially for the dinner price. Breakfast was okay, but nothing special. We’d recommend the hotel and think it will come into its own outside Corona times, when you can get a fuller sense of the place.

We couldn’t secure our e-bikes properly. We locked them together and tucked them out of sight behind the hotel by the bins. I can’t say whether bike theft is a major risk in Robertville, but leaving expensive bikes like that felt odd. The receptionist was friendly enough, although French was the only language available. If you don’t know any French, German and English weren’t options, so you might struggle a little. The spa itself was tranquil and relaxing, and the pool and jacuzzi were a pleasant temperature. It also seemed quite clean. Our lunch booking fell through because the cook hadn’t seen the reservation from the day before and didn’t come in to work. That wasn’t a big problem for us. Still, €45 per person for three hours feels excessive, €90 for a couple. At that price, a full day’s admission would make more sense. The session has to be taken from 10 to 1300, which doesn’t feel like a full day at the spa.

I came for work at Spa24H, and this felt like a joke of a hotel. There was zero hospitality. The staff seemed not to care about guests’ comfort, and you don’t feel welcome here. The hotel is beside the road, and trucks kept waking us at night. Closing the windows didn’t help, the air conditioner didn’t work, and there were no mosquito screens. Staff said they’d fix the AC on the first day, but nothing was done over the next four days. We also had trouble with hot water in the shower, and the wifi was weak. Checkout is at 11:00. At 10:40 they shouted at us and opened the door, then kept coming in and yelling until we left. Find somewhere better.
