We stayed in Butterfly in October 2024 and came away very disappointed. For such a beautiful natural setting in a convenient spot for exploring local sites, it was a shame that we couldn’t enjoy the property comfortably or relax there. The problems included unsafe access from the road, a lack of security, uncomfortable beds and poorly planned spaces. Facilities were missing, even some listed in the advertisement, and information and communication were badly lacking. Overall, the location is excellent, but the property didn’t offer the comfort we expected. I’ll add a more detailed review in photos because of the word limit.

Everything was clean and tidy when we arrived, and the house was quiet. It had the things you’d expect, including a washing machine, dishwasher, oven and coffee maker, plus curtains to keep the sun out. There was no key handover because everything was left open. We didn’t mind, and actually found it quite pleasant. It’s good accommodation for a fair price, though, like anywhere, there are a few small flaws.

We stayed here recently with friends and were glad we could split the bill, because the quality was well below what we expected. The property’s very attractive photos and prime location seem to have earned it a ridiculously high score. When we arrived, the door was simply open. There was no PIN system for getting a key, just an unlocked door and the hope that the right people would come in. We eventually found the single key on the inside of the door, which makes little sense in a building that can hold so many people. We also had to buy several basics, including hand soap and dishwashing liquid. I’d given my girlfriend a towel, which luckily meant we could dry the dishes. The washing machine is listed as an amenity, but it’s down in the basement. The route has a low ceiling that you have to duck under, and it took some searching to find the light switch. The hallway is bright green and extremely slippery because it’s outside. It badly needs maintenance, as does the rest of the house. Mold seems to be everywhere, not just in one spot, so I hope you’re not sensitive to it. Every morning and evening, the completely overgrown fence made getting out an adventure. You have to watch for cars and, even more dangerously, cyclists. Coming back, you need to look the other way, because the property is so well hidden. And the requirement to clean the entire place before leaving is laughable.

Some very good friends came to visit us from abroad, and we offered them this place near Ypres. While they were staying there, they invited us in. We were truly embarrassed by the condition inside and out, and by all the things that were supposedly included but weren’t. I wouldn’t stay there myself.
