Splendid Hotel

Please be careful about staying at this Splendid Hotel in Ouagadougou, Burkina. I had $500 go missing from my backpack after returning to my room from the pool around 8:15am on Saturday Monday 16-11-24. I’d gone to the pool at about 7:45am. The cleaners were in the room, and my bags were unlocked. When I checked, the money was gone. I asked the cleaner, who said he hadn’t seen it, and his supervisor came in and seemed to try to confuse me. I asked the security chief to check the CCTV so we could see whether the cleaner had left and where he went, but he said the camera wasn’t working. It’s upsetting that someone entered while my clothes were spread over the bed, after they’d seen me at the pool. The breakfast was horrible, the gym very dirty, and room 125 smelled bad. I also couldn’t lock the room from inside at night. The customer service wasn’t bad, and the shuttle driver was very nice and polite, but I recommend not staying here.

The hotel is on the main road to the airport, barely five minutes away, and easy to reach from Ouagadougou’s main areas. The staff are polite and friendly, the food is decent, and the rooms are clean and fresh. I also liked the architecture. It’s a great place to stay in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, and somewhere I’d gladly revisit.

I’m reviewing this again after a recent stay. The staff seem amateur and don’t care much about customer service. The rooms have become pathetic, with almost no occupancy, while the rates are still high. What they charge should match the experience they give. This hotel has lost its sense of service, and I’d avoid staying here.

Some of the property is still being built or renovated. The available rooms are affordable and work for low-budget travelers. It’s an okay place overall, but there isn’t much to say about the food. Better prepare your own. Good luck.
