Agata Beach

The panoramic terrace has a lovely view, and the location is great. It’s also quiet, perhaps because there aren’t many people outside the busy season. We’ve stayed here for three years, though, and the service quality has slipped while prices have gone up. The rooms we’ve had could use more maintenance, and on a couple of visits the jacuzzi wasn’t even filled. The manager tried to persuade me to pay more for a service and offered to show me the electricity bills as an explanation. The rest of the staff were very polite.

The owner was so friendly and kind, which we really appreciated. It’s right by the sea, with a nice room and a jacuzzi in the front yard. The small building gives the place a cozy feel, and it works well for an average few-day stay. The furniture seemed old and used, so I did wonder about cleanliness. It smelled good and was reasonably clean, though.

They charged my card for a room I never used, and that room was never available as advertised. I booked a sea-view room, then the hotel called to say it wasn’t available and offered a smaller, cheaper one. Notice that they called, they seem skilled at handling booking changes this way. I said I didn’t want anything below what was advertised. After that, they wouldn’t cancel. What they said on the phone didn’t match what they wrote to booking, leaving no record in the system that Agata Beach Hotel was trying to change my room or had posted misleading adverts. The manager was extremely rude and stopped answering the phone, while emailing booking to say the reservation was valid. I now see that others have had the same thing happen, and Bulgarian reviews describe the same sad story. Completely two-faced.

We were able to work from the apartment because the Wi-Fi was so good, and the view was just what we expected. They’re also happy to have dogs, which was great since we were there with our labrador. The staff and owners were really polite and helpful. Breakfast was far more than two people could eat, so we asked for less on the following mornings.
