The setting is the best part, with a lovely location, a big yard, and a pool and green spaces that work well for families with kids. The rooms are clean, the TV works, and the bathroom was fine, though the furnishings are old. There’s no food available here, and it’s not the place to choose if comfort is what you’re after.

The toilets and bathrooms are down in the basement, reached by slippery stairs, and the hygiene is poor. It feels set up for a night or two at most. Read the other comments and you’ll see for yourself.

The staff are still very kind and polite, and helped us with everything we needed. But the place wasn’t as nice as when we visited a few years ago. Hygiene was lacking in the rooms and in the outdoor barbecue areas, and the lake, which used to be one of the complex’s best sights, is nearly gone and mostly overgrown.

The welcome was warm, and the quiet surroundings and lovely view over the dam made for a restful stay. Ovchaga Complex is in Asparuhovo, in the Varna region, close to the Tsonevo dam. There’s a garden, courtyard, playground, swimming pool, free private parking, and Wi-Fi throughout. Its four houses have a total of 44 beds, and there’s also a tavern with a folklore program.
