Hotel Rai

We stopped by for the day to use the pool and had a lovely lunch. The gardens were lovely too 😊

Easy to reach and close to the coast, with easy parking and okay Wi-Fi. The outside area was nice, and the pool was a good feature, though nothing special overall. Beds were comfortable, but the host put a couple of us in a twin room despite having other rooms available. We pushed the beds together, but they kept sliding across the tiled floor. That’s about all I liked. There were a lot of things we didn’t. I’m tall and couldn’t use the toilet in the bathroom with the door shut, which was unacceptable, so I had to use the lobby bathroom two floors down. The advertised English breakfast wasn’t what we got. It was more semi-continental: the cascaval was moldy, the boiled eggs overcooked, and there was hair on the ham. The host came into our room while we were out to switch off the air conditioning. It had stayed on during similar periods when we were in the room, so it didn’t seem timer-related. I found that very concerning and unacceptable as a security issue. There should also be DND signs. We hadn’t expected room cleaning during a two-day stay, and wanted to know nobody would come in while our belongings were there. I’ve traveled all over the globe and this has never happened elsewhere. At first we were told there weren’t two rooms on the same floor, but when one room had a problem, it was moved to our floor, which didn’t make sense. There was an annoying noise from a light fixture outside the room, and the sockets were hanging off the walls in both rooms, which felt unsafe. The pool-area shower also had unsafe electrics, with power cables running through its base. They advertised card payments but demanded cash at check-in. The host would scold guests for certain things around the hotel, including telling us chemicals were going into the pool, basically telling us to get out. Floaties were tied to the pool ladder with a string, which looked like a safety risk, and there was no other ladder to get out. Drink and food prices weren’t clearly displayed on a menu. There was no fridge in the room, which was strange. There’s more I could add, and a minimum two-night stay. Wouldn’t stay again.

We have a house in the next village and stay here every holiday. It’s very clean, with a well-stocked bar and a stunning garden. Free Wi-Fi and a great family pool.

Such beautiful gardens, and a really peaceful place. It feels like a tropical paradise.
