Royal Cove

I spent one night here. There's not much to do besides eat and sit on the beach, and the beaches could use a lot of improvement. The setting is nice, with hills beside the sea, though those need some work too.

The terrace and the spectacular view really make the stay. The low room price hints that some maintenance is needed, though. The hotel needs repairs and some things replaced.

The rooms and apartments are clean, spacious, and furnished with nice new furniture, with enough room for a family with kids. There's a great pool, but no restaurant, only a bar and dinner, which is inconvenient if you want a quick bite. It's near the beach but far from the city center, so you'll really need your own car.

We arrived late, at 20.00, and the receptionist spoke only Bulgarian, despite the claim that staff speak at least four languages. We tried several. When we got to the apartment, there was someone else's dusty luggage in the bedroom, apparently left there for a long time, plus a rolled-up carpet between the dresser and the wall. The receptionist had disappeared when we went back downstairs. We called the number on the door, but he said one word and hung up. We never saw or heard from him again. The bathroom was dirty. The next morning we spoke with a woman who seemed to be the administrator or receptionist. She said someone would clean, then asked, "how is it not clean ? Tell me. How ?" The photos speak for themselves. She came into the room and said it was clean, and even claimed it was normal to have someone else's luggage there. She said we were the first to complain in YEARS. It really looked like it had been there for years. After an argument, she finally removed it. It wasn't expensive, but it wasn't cheap either. The couch was terrible, with a 5 cm foam so-called mattress. The curtain was ripped, there was dust everywhere, and old things only worked partly. For 2021, the place was disgusting. I can't understand how it got a 3 stars rating. If Google let me give 0 stars, I would. I would never recommend it to anybody.
