Festa-Kranevo

The staff were friendly, the food was tasty, and the beach is close by. Shops and a bus stop are nearby too. At 25 euros a night for all-inclusive, it’s a great deal.

The breakfast was fine, like at other Bulgarian hotels, though it wasn’t buffet style and there wasn’t much variety for a one-star place. I’ve had the same food at three- and four-star hotels, so that wasn’t my issue. I’m easygoing about rooms, cleaning, towels, food, and staff. I just need a bed where I can sleep, and I didn’t get a full night’s sleep once. I’ve slept better in tents on beaches. My room was right by some tables in the atrium. People sat there late into the night, talking loudly just a couple of metres from the windows and staring in whenever I changed or did anything in my room. There were lights right outside, and no curtains, so it felt like sleeping in daylight. You could hear the tables from other rooms too. Without air conditioning, I had to keep the window open, and there were no proper windows with insect screens, so I had to hunt mosquitoes before bed. There were children running around indoors late at night as well, and two nights were ruined by the noise. Many were on a camping-style trip without their parents, with only two attendants for groups sharing rooms of three or four. One child was sick right outside my door. I won’t judge that, I was drinking lots of beer on school trips when I was ten too. Maybe it’s a summer tradition because the rooms are cheap. I’ve spent 12 summers in Bulgaria, and this was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The other bad reviews seem fair, even though I doubted some of them at first. I won’t come back, and I won’t buy overpriced frozen pizza at Kranevo restaurants with a Pizza&grill banner.

The hotel staff were rude, and the bathrooms were awful. As a Ukrainian, I felt sure I’d be treated with prejudice. The food was horrible too, and I’m sure you’ll lose weight eating it. This was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in.

Kranevo is a lovely village and the location is good. That’s the only reason I’m giving two stars. The place was so neglected and dirty that even staying one day felt like an adventure, and the staff’s attitude made it worse. Otherwise, I’d give it minus one.
