Laura I.
I booked 6 rooms for people travelling from Romania to attend my wedding. My husband had gone a week ahead of their arrival and paid in full for 4 rooms, while another was paid online. Then, just 1 hour before check in, we got 2 cancellation emails saying the hotel had overbooked. We received a full refund for the rooms my husband paid for in cash, but the room booked online was only partly refunded. When the guests arrived to check in, we went over and spoke with the woman there. She was apathetic, rude, and nasty, didn’t speak English at all, and seemed not to care that people had travelled hundreds of kilometres only to be told an hour before arrival that they had no rooms. I’d never been put in this position through booking before. I was left trying to find accommodation for 13 people on the street. This isn’t normal. They also wanted to cancel the other two rooms on booking and have us pay the same amount in cash there, probably to keep the money booking would otherwise take as fees. I was told they hadn’t overbooked, but that someone arrived wanting a longer stay, so they gave those rooms to them and cancelled ours. In the end, the rooms paid for on booking still weren’t fully refunded. The stress and huge headache of finding somewhere for 13 people before my wedding was a nightmare. They had travelled hundreds of kilometres and were left without a place in peak season, when even finding one room was difficult, especially in another country. Please read the other comments, it seems they do this a lot. Don’t book if you need somewhere to sleep, these people may leave you out on the street.
