Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort

The views over the ocean are spectacular, and I might come back for the course’s unusual layout. I’d go in expecting a relaxed five-hour round, though, and bring extra balls rather than worry about the score. Some parts made the game frustrating. Trees and branches directly in front of tee boxes made it hard to follow my shots, and on the blind holes I couldn’t find a fairway marker. Hole 7 asks for at least a 190 m carry across the ocean, which felt questionable in heavy wind. I also thought the course needed a marshal to help keep play moving and maintain space between groups. It’s a beautiful course, but go with the right expectations.

In September 2025, I found the grounds and building difficult to overlook: there were broken steps, loose surfaces, and several slip or trip hazards. The place feels like it has seen better days and needs a lot of maintenance. My room also smelled moldy, had old damp spots on the bedroom wall, and a noticeably sagging mattress. Still, the setting is beautiful. The golf course was in good shape and well maintained, even though it was challenging to play. My room was spacious and nicer than I expected, and the facility’s layout made it easy to get around. Restaurant prices were very high for the quality. Selling wine by the bottle at five or six times its retail cost felt greedy. The resort is in a lovely location, but it badly needs some care.

The service was so poor that the price of the stay just didn’t make sense. We paid for a VIP welcome package, never received it, and still didn’t get a refund despite asking several times. The manager seemed aware of the problems but did nothing. On check-in day, there was no water in the building. At 11 pm, the receptionist called our apartment to check whether it was back, apparently thinking it was fine to wake us up at any hour. We had reserved three beach sunbeds every day, but on our first visit Viktor was extremely rude and said they were short on beds and didn’t care about the reservation, so we could have only two. Even though the beach is part of the hotel, umbrellas and sunbeds still cost extra. There were no lifeguards. Sometimes beach restaurant waiters or the towel staff changed in the VIP cabana and then took on lifeguard duties. Breakfast was exactly the same and very basic every day, nowhere near what I’d expect at a five-star hotel. Restaurant staff were constantly arguing, and the restaurant itself was average. When we asked the beach restaurant for ice after 2 pm, they said they didn’t have much and couldn’t give us any. Honestly, this was one of the worst places I’ve visited in Bulgaria for customer service and the overall experience.
