Gurko

I haven't stayed at the hotel, but I love spending a sunny afternoon at its restaurant. The outdoor seats look out over the town, the monument and the Yantra, and the spot feels peaceful since it's away from the busy main street and its traffic. The food is great, the place is very traditional, and the staff are friendly. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in Veliko Tarnovo 🇧🇬

The breakfast was so fresh and delicious, and I especially loved the omelets. Our room was clean, quiet and cozy, and the staff were kind and lovely. The hotel overlooks the river, which made for excellent bird watching. We really enjoyed the visit and hope to come back.

The room itself was spacious, comfortable and clean, and breakfast was excellent. But the noise carried from the hallway or next room whenever a neighbor was there. There was no working phone, so once I had to go down to reception and another time I texted my trip leader to step in. The shower was one of the worst I've used: hard to turn on, and since it was only half enclosed, water ended up everywhere. There was no top sheet, just a light bedspread or cover. I was told we'd all have rooms with beautiful views in a lovely little hotel run by a nice couple. Instead, my room looked onto a one-meter-high stone wall and the neighboring rooftops, even though our company had booked front-facing rooms with views. I felt cheated and ripped off. Hotel Gurko Veliko Tarnovo gets a C- from me.

The meals were really tasty, and the breakfast they brought us was huge and delicious. Everything was perfect. We'll definitely return.
